Beautiful, subtle toning! I love the glow that comes from the adding that warm color to the mostly monochromatic drawing. I wish that cross section was not so close to the edge of the paper. Even so, I’d like see more detail there.

This is such a cool drawing.

Thanks 🙏🏻. I will get into more detail when/if my mad drawing skillz improve! Need to make use of that magnifying glass 🔍

Hi Doug, Thanks so much for your comments! Very helpful. I agree about the crackly finish and the cast shadow. Cynthia

Ah now I remember, I have seen the plant after all. It is a climbing plant!

This is so beautiful, Colleen! You captured the texture, colour and shape of the chayote so perfectly! The angle you drew the whole one is amazing too! Interestingly, I have never seen the chayote plant. I wonder what it looks like – will check!

Thanks for the encouragement, Doug, Sheila and Jill! I am not very happy with the section, as it looks a bit too fuzzy and flat. But will follow the good advice received in the webinar (give more definition to the skin) and see what happens. 🙂

Thanks for following up @doug-milne! Agreed. I will wait for the flowers and take it from there. Am looking forward to it. This is a very special aspect about drawing directly from nature. I love that it is emphasised here!

Another attempt at drawing two rather past their best citrus fruits! Can see what needs to be improved but have posted anyway just to say I’m still enjoying the process regardless of the results!!

Hi Marilyn, Nice drawing. That lemon is especially nice! You have chosen the perfect colors to achieve the shape. I love the little dimples. I think the orange is less successful. Maybe add some warm darks in the shadows to get more of a spheric shape.

Good job on the branch Cynthia! Nice even toning and crisp edges!

Hi Cynthia- nice saturation! There are a couple of places I would revisit. Be careful not to outline the subjects. Also the highlight seems to have a crackled finish where I would expect cherries to have a smooth finish. The cast shadows will be darkest nearest the fruit and fade out as it moves away. Be sure to have nice smooth, even toning. Nice job!

Hi Julie- your toning is really nice! The one area I would revisit is the areas flanking the highlight. They should be lighter so there is a more gradual transition into the mid-range toning. Great job!

Hi Colleen- what an unusual subject! The colors are beautiful! You could use more darker toning to emphasize it’s form. I am only seeing a cast shadow on the center piece and a little on the cut piece on the right. Both the whole fruit and the cut piece on the right would be casting a shadow also.

This is beautiful Harriet!!
So lovely! You have really captured the essence of this flower. I love the subtle movement of color.
Maybe a bit of artistic license with the colours! The flower wilted quickly and my photographs flattened out any subtle changes in colour that drew me to the flower in the first place.
This is so beautiful! I actually like the colours a lot!
Beautiful!
Gorgeous! So full!
Wonderful!
Gorgeous Harriet! The colors are beautiful! The centers of both flowers draw your eyes right in!!!
Gorgeous, as usual. You make it look so effortless – what beautiful portraits.
