Zoom Workshop 111: Romantic Roses

Sunday, January 19, 2025: 3pm – 7pm EST

Wednesday, January 22, 2025: 4pm – 6pm EST

Instructors: Pam & Emet
Level: Intermediate
Botanical Subjects: Roses

Open roses with curling petals can be more challenging to draw, so we recommend beginners start with a tightly budded rose. (Experienced artists, choose any rose that inspires you!) Collect several roses so that some of them can be deconstructed for close examination of the various parts.

Workshop Description

Practice the art of drawing nature’s most beloved symbol of love – the rose. We’ll alternate between watercolor and colored pencil as we show you how to portray the romantic allure of roses – a perfect skill for crafting a heartfelt gift for someone special on Valentine’s Day, and any occasion when love is celebrated!

What You’ll Learn

🌹Rose Structure: Understand the overall shape of a rose and how its individual parts connect the whole flower.

🥀Rolling Petals: Focus on how the petals hug the form around the bud and how they peel away, transitioning into beautiful cylindrical shapes that unfold to create the iconic rose bloom.

🌼Overlapping Petals: Learn how to shade overlaps and describe the details that bring your rose to life.

💡Create Depth: Use lighting and perspective to make your drawings descriptive and wonderfully three-dimensional.
