Workshop Description

Learn how to depict the delicate, translucent qualities of papery botanical textures. We’ll guide you through techniques for drawing the unique surfaces of garlic skins, onion layers, and other botanical subjects with thin, flaky textures.

What You’ll Practice

🌟 Papery Textures Up Close: Explore ways to illustrate delicate, flaky garlic skins and onion peels.

🎨 Watercolor & Colored Pencil Techniques: Experiment with combining colored pencil and watercolor washes to build layers and depth in your painting. Work on blending and detailing techniques to mimic the subtle tonal shifts found in nature.

💡 Playing with Light and Shadow: See how light interacts with translucent surfaces, and learn to use light and shadows to create a realistic “feel” and emphasize the transparency and dimension of your subjects.
