Stepping away for a while seems to help to &#8216;see&#8217;.  So far, I&#8217;m finding it easier to add in when using graphite vs colour.  I think this might have something to do with the loss of tooth in the dark areas using coloured pencil.  I&#8217;m&hellip;</span></div>

I wanted to keep all of the strokes &amp; notes of my preliminary drawing, so I used tracing paper to pick up the most useful lines.  Created a reverse of the drawing on the other side, then transferred this line drawing below the preliminary one to carry on with shading.</span></div>

It has a very distinctive pattern, papery pattern that I wanted to record, yet I think in terms of toning, this area should be darker.  I&#8217;ll post a picture so that you can see what I mean.</p>

This leaf doesn&#8217;t strike me as being overworked, as you say &#8212; the shadows are deep &amp; rich, the highlights textured &amp; subtle.  Together, they give the leaf tremendous, realistic form.  I love the colours, especially as they transition from one to another.  The veins are very convincing too!  Quite beautiful!</p>
