Im new to DawBotanical and drawing as a whole. I’m afraid I may have gone too dark in this scale tool. But, before I change anything, I’d appreciate your comments.
Welcome Ana! The #9 square is definitely not too dark. You have a nice range of tones. There is a lot of texture showing on the squares and I was wondering what kind of paper you were using.
Ana, Just wanted to say welcome! Nice range of tones. Theres a bit of a large just between #1 and #2, but it’s nothing to worry about. Looking forward to seeing you go through these exercises. It’s so much fun to see people just starting out.
Thank you Doug. Yes, I was concerned about the graininess of the paper as well. I used the Master’s Touch Bristol Vellum from Hobby Lobby. I had tried the Strathmore 400 Drawing paper recommended in “Botanical Drawing in Color.” But that was grainy as well. The hot pressed watercolor paper is a little pricey. So, I’ll be waiting to buy that. Does the brand of watercolor paper matter much? I have a sheet of the Arches hot pressed. So I’ll try that in the meantime.

Thank you Pam. I see that jump from #1 and #2. I’m gonna try it again on a sheet of Arches hot press. This stuff is exciting!
