What a learning experience! This is my final (for now) attempt with notes on what I finally used. I uploaded a process photo collage of all the previous attempts. I was having trouble with everything looking really leathery so I switched to water color for the petals. Pink flowers are even trickier than yellow ones!
Lovely Erin! Watercolor seems to work so well with roses! The colors are beautiful! Keep in mind that the leaves are also important to the image. You have captured great highlights and shadows on the flower and the leaves look flat in comparison. The addition of highlights, more range of tones and possibly even a variety of green colors would give them more definition and interest. Nice job!

That rose is amazingly light and silky!
