Just a wash of watercolour and lots of layers of coloured pencil. I find masking fluid too difficult to manage with sharp pencils, they scratch it off too easily and I’m a bit heavy handed with the etching tool!

Yes, learning how to soften the edges of your drawing and not rely on lines to complete the form can be quite challenging. As I’m drawing I keep rechecking where the highlights begin and end and try and softly shade the colour all the way to the edges. Carefully finishing the edges helps also.
