Hi Ishbel, I love your parrot tulip. I have one observation about composition that you can consider going forward. It feels as if the perspective is starting with the leaves and that the tulip is about eye level making it seem far away. Was that intentional? Normally I like to see the focal point be the flower and if anything the leaves can be below and smaller. Here are a couple of Historical Botanicals one is a Redoute to illustrate what I am saying.
I absolutely see what you mean, thanks…I had to shorten the distance from the flower to the leaves to fit on the page so that’s how the perspective got skewed but I will certainly think about this next time!

Beautiful detail in those petals, Ishbel!! Yeah, something about the angle/composition here makes me feel like the flower is not the focal point, despite all the saturated color and detail…. my eye goes right to the place where the stem emerges from that first leaf…
Thanks Vern. Yes, I didn’t see that until Wendy pointed it out but it is so clear now. I’ll do another tulip in the next little while and really pay attention to focal point!

Observing the power of composition is great, and I know something you wanted to work on in Greece. So keep at it, you are doing great!
