Hi Kaye, Wow these really pop off the page! I love the rich, deep color you have here. And nice details around the stem area! Good Job! My one comment would be that your reflective light could be a touch darker with a more smooth gradient into the center As is, it reads too much like a white line.
Thank you Katy! I will work on this. I am struggling the reflective highlight. I know it is not supposed to be white, but wonder if it is to be darker to the grey/black or the tomato’s color. I so appreciate your comment and help! I have really enjoyed my beginnings with Draw Botanical!
Hi Kaye! The reflective highlight is on the surface of the fruit, so it will be made up of the local color of the fruit, but a darker tone than the main highlight. Think of the form of the fruit still rounding away from your eye, but then the light from the surface bouncing or “reflecting” back up. So it is the light off the surface bouncing back on the fruit. You can do your grisaille toning and coloring right over it – but just lighten it up a bit. It’ll never be white – and you want to make sure to maintain the good form/roundness of your fruit drawing. Hope that makes some sense! Keep up the great work.
