This looks great! Nice smooth toning and good highlights. The one thing I would comment on is the reflective light. It needs to be less a white line and more a glow. Think of it as light bouncing off the table. It should gradually move into the core shadow on the fruit. Also it should be a bit darker.
Looking good Kathryn. Your color mixing is really nice, and I love how you handled those highlights on top of your tomato, and the way you varied their intensities. Really nice. And then I would just echo what Katy suggested about the reflected highlight. They are tough. I still struggle with getting them right. I really like the way Katy suggested to imagine the light bouncing off the table and gradually moving into the core shadow of the fruit. That’s a really good way to think of it. And then when you put your cast shadow in, remember not to leave a white halo between the reflected highlight and the cast shadow. Oh, and you also did a beautiful job of showing the way that center dips down into the fruit – great use of shadow. Can’t wait to see more!
