Hi Kathryn! Your range of tones on the tomato are wonderful!!! The reflected highlight is challenging and you are not quite there yet. It should not be as white as the main highlight so you could tone it down by adding a little orange or gold (or combination). Since it is representing a glow that is caused by light bouncing off the table surface it should not be a controlled line. It blends into the dark toning above it. I would lighten the cast shadow as it is too dark. You want the cast shadow to be more of a suggestion that grounds your subject to the page. When it is too dark it competes with the subject instead of supporting it. Your cast shadow currently has a flat top. Instead continue it up the side of the tomato a little ways following the same curve you have. The cast shadow should follow the shape of the subject. You are almost there! Great job!
Hi Doug! Thank you. On my previous tomato attempt, you said I should take the shadow up at a 45 degree angle. I guess I’m not quite sure from which reference point. I’m adding a new pic where I’ve just altered the current drawing with the suggestions. Thanks for your input. I want to get this right before I move on!
Nice Kathryn. Now that you’ve toned your reflected highlight a bit (much better!), I think you can go back in and make that core shadow just a bit darker. You are doing great!!
