A work in progress of a little native columbine (Aquilegia canadensis). I’m thinking about the composition, and wondering whether I should do the rest in grays – either with colored pencil or with graphite. Any opinions?
Beautiful, Pam! I’m curious why you want to do the rest in graphite? To emphasize the colored flower as the focal point? Personally, I’d go full color. But I’d love to hear what others say.
Judging from your sketch the other components are smaller and set back. I agree with Vern that you could still do the balance in color and the bloom you have all ready done will still be the star. Beautiful Pam!!!

I meant to ask Pam. Is your actual drawing of the bloom enlarged or is it to scale?
Gorgeous, everything: petals, stamens, the overall essence of the flower. I agree that color for the whole drawing will complete the page/composition.
It’s to scale. Itty bitty.
I love this Canadian columbine! It’s very small but packs a punch visually. The colour is like a firecracker! Great job drawing it !
