Great Richard! You did a wonderful job on capturing the reflected highlight! It really reads as a glow from light bouncing off the table surface!!! The main highlight is a positioned too close to the center of the orb and should shift to the left a little. You could use more dark toning and have it transition into the mid-range tones. Keep thinking about those 9 tones you want to capture! The cast shadow is also looking better. It could be a little lighter so it does not compete so much with your main subject. Also remember to angle it back instead of down. If that is how you are seeing it you do not have your lamp in the right position. The lighting standard you want to create is the light is coming over your left shoulder at a 45 degree angle.
Richard! I’m really enjoying watching your progress. This is getting better and better. Your toning is much smother, you are getting more values, and your highlight and reflected highlight are looking really natural. This sphere is looking much more 3D than your earlier drawings. Way to go! Follow Doug’s great advice, and it will be even better.
