    Hi Wendy, in your second video you show the process of auditioning your subject in various ways, different angles, etc, and then pruning the branch to make a good composition. How important is it in botanical illustration to represent the growth habit of the plant? For example, with certain trees, with witch hazel, which I’ve just been drawing, I snipped off a branch and then turned it around and around until it was in a pleasing shape and then drew it that way. But witch hazel has a very specific vase shaped growth habit and the way I ultimately chose to draw the branch did not represent that. I’ve struggled with this over and over again when trying to good composition AND represent the way the plant inhabits its environment.

    • Sorry, I made reference to your second video. I initially wrote this comment on the lesson page for the “create a botanical illustration.” and was referring to the way you demonstrated creating a composition with a crab apple branch right on the page.
