Yes! Aren’t those cross sections fun to draw! I’m trying to decide if I’d like to see a cast shadow on the whole fruit. I do somehow want to see something more in this composition. Not sure what! It is so lovely as it is.
Thanks, Katy. Yes, I am hesitant to bring any darkness to it because I really like the bright yellow and don’t want to muddy it -but I think it does need a little attention. My shadows need work. I might just do a new version and mess about more with the cast shadow.
Hi Colleen- the colors are beautiful and the skin texture and patterning is great!!!! The cast shadows are really throwing me off! Based on the highlight on the intact apple the cast shadows are going in the wrong direction. I think the cut piece on the top right is probably lying on the table surface, but it looks like it is standing on end. That has a lot to do with how the cast shadows are done. Something to think of in the future is that cut piece is a hard view to do in that position and it would have read better if it was shown horizontally.
Colleen – these leaves are beautiful!!! The greens are so rich! Be aware that the secondary veins usually taper from the main vein as they move to the outside edges. Secondary veins often also don’t go directly to the edge and they may curve up as they near the edge and become even smaller. You are almost there!
Hi Colleen- what an unusual subject! The colors are beautiful! You could use more darker toning to emphasize it’s form. I am only seeing a cast shadow on the center piece and a little on the cut piece on the right. Both the whole fruit and the cut piece on the right would be casting a shadow also.
This is so beautiful, Colleen! You captured the texture, colour and shape of the chayote so perfectly! The angle you drew the whole one is amazing too! Interestingly, I have never seen the chayote plant. I wonder what it looks like – will check!

Ah now I remember, I have seen the plant after all. It is a climbing plant!
