Liz- you are off to a good start with this orange! There are a couple of areas I would revisit. The highlight is too tight. I would lighten the area around it to make it a little more irregular. This is also an area where the texture of the skin is very evident. You have created form, but I would add more dark toning. As I mentioned on another post the red/violet pencil would be good to use for toning on an orange subject. Look at the orange again. The stem would cast a shadow and there would probably be a little shading in the stem well. With your light source set up to come over your left shoulder the cast shadow should start under the orange and angle up on the right side. It will fade as it moves away from the subject and should be a suggestion. It should not compete with the subject. The cast shadow on your drawing looks like the light was directly above it which is not the botanical standard. There are a lot of great citrus drawings on the ArtFeed in addition to the online lessons and Wendy’s books to use for reference.
