    • Spring in my woods. Erythronium americanum. A simple monocot, 3 sepals and 3 petals.

Glen, this is one of. my favorite spring ephemerals. I’m going to go see if I can find some today to draw – they are so much fun. You are capturing those colors really nicely. I love the color of the stem – it’s spot on. Good job with showing the pattern on those leaves, they are so interesting. Be careful when you observe how your petals curve. That line where that top petal folds back should be straight instead of curved, Our brains think that it should be curved, but it should actually be straight. If I find some today, I’ll post some photos of what I’m talking about to show you what I mean. Good job and thanks for the inspiration!

    • @pgthompson I did several dozen practice drawings of the stem with the tricky trifurcation. But when I got to the flower I just wanted to be finished. So I short changed the flower. I’d like to do the whole drawing over again but now Trillium grandiflorum are open. I think they would look best on craft paper. I look forward to seeing your drawing of the trout Lilly.
