@doug-milne Hi Doug, Today I practiced with branches that overlap each other. It was a challenge to get the highlights in the right place on each branch. I would like to get feedback on this. I also placed reflective highlights on some branches. I would like to hear whether I have applied this technique correctly. Other tips are always welcome. Thank you in advance for your input on this study object. Kind regards, Ingrid
Found it! Hope this helps! If you can reconstruct your branches (or substitutes) pay attention to the shadows created by the angled branches when appropriately lit.
@doug -milne Good morning Doug, Thank you for your feedback and your example. Based on your feedback I adjusted my drawing. I hope that my drawing is now closer to reality and has become better.
Hi Ingrid- it is getting better! There are still pieces that are not uniform with their toning. You really challenged yourself by having so many pieces and adding the details. Generally the overlapping grid lesson uses simple pieces (pencils, chopsticks, etc make good models). The next exercise would be a drawing of (at least three) overlapping actual branches illustrating what you learned on the first lesson (how the highlight and shadows should be done on overlapping cylinders). Followed by adding the details of the branches. If you feel like you understand the concept now (and I think you do) I would move on to doing the overlapping actual branches.

Hi Ingrid- Sorry! That is not the image I meant to attach. I will see if I can try again. It is in my portfolio if you can access it.
