Amy this is looking great. I think that now that we see how beautiful and bright the inside of this orange is, I sort of want more saturation in the whole orange…? Do you guys agree? What seemed so bright and bold before looks almost washed out compared to the gorgeous color of the inside. Re: the inside. 1. Is that a water drop or a seed on the middle-right? If it’s a water drop, I recommend shrinking that highlight down to a teeny dot. If it’s a seed, maybe give us some more tonal or color information so that is clearer. 2. The edges of the red segments; like right where they meet the outer rind: could you round those corners a bit more? They seem very rigid to me. In my experience, those triangular segments are a bit rounder where they meet the skin that divides segments. Does that make sense? I know that is a tiny detail, but I think it would make the orange look more realistic. 🙂 Beautiful job!!
Thank you very much Vern – all of those suggestions are super useful. Yes, I very much agree about the overall saturation of the color. I really struggled with this – that deep, deep red is so characteristic of this fruit, but I held back for fear of loosing the detail of the texture of the inside of the fruit. That said, I’m going to go back and deepen it slowly and carefully. Agree about rounding the corners more, will do this. Yep, that is a seed, not a water drop will try to make that clearer. I’ll post a follow up as soon as I can 🙂
Vern: was just re-reading your comments and I think I maybe misunderstood something you said – I thought you were recommending that I add more color saturation to the *inside* of the fruit, but I think that you are suggesting I add more saturation to the *outside*. If so, yes, I can definitely do that. I will hold off on deepening the color of the inside for now.
Yes, I meant the outside, and yes, it looks great. 🙂

Maybe just a liiiiitttle more dark tones on the shadow side of the whole orange? Now that the orange is more vibrant, you may want to adjust the shadow tone a bit.
The color of the inside of this fruit is so beautiful that I got a little obsessed with trying to capture it.
I love the addition of the inside! Beautifully done.
Thank you Pam!

Vern, I have followed your suggestions and I can see that they really help.
