Anne, these are looking great! I think your dark tones on the single branch are very lovely; just try to scoot your highlight over to the left a bit more so it doesn’t appear to be in the center. You can also break up that highlight a bit so it looks less straight. Your overlapping branches look good as well, I just recommend a few more layers of pencil so your colors are more saturated and you see less of the white of the paper coming through. You could also add some more dark tones to the left side of the bottom branch where it sits underneath the other–your tones are great on the right side of the overlap; they can be almost that dark on the other side as well! This is an excellent first attempt with colored pencil! I can’t wait to see what you do next! 🙂
Hi Vern, thank you very much for your feedback and I will take note of the things you mentioned. With the overlapping branches I thought that maybe I’d made the dark tones too dark where the branches overlap but I see now that if I add some darker tones on the left side and more layers generally it’ll look more balanced. I’m very glad to have found Wendy’s online classes because I’ve had my colored pencils a while now and never really used them despite buying some books to help me get started.

Great texture and rich color. Effective rounding of the form with the tones.
Thank you Lise.
