I know when something’s feeling off compliments can feel wrong, but still, Wow! The shapes and curls and overlaps of the petals and leaves are really lovely. I also like the overall composition. I have a few ideas (to be taken with a grain of salt–I’m not as far along as you skill wise!). What about adding some blues/purples to the deepest shadows on the petals? Maybe even just the second, lower set of petals farther from the stamen? My one other thought is that maybe right now the one darker leaf is a little distracting. My eye keeps going to it, away from the flower. This might resolve on its own once the other leaves are darker.
Hi Becky- I think the high hopes you had are well deserved! You are all ready on your way there! To begin with the colors and the level of saturation on the areas you have finished are wonderful! The dark leaf is gorgeous and I don’t think it will be distracting once the other leaves are fully realized. I have no doubt that because the flower is so beautifully rendered and the colors so appealing it will be the focal point it was meant to be! I think the areas that are off to me on the flower are just areas you have not finished yet. The top part of the flower currently has a lot of highlight and needs more saturation and definition. The stamens need shadow and form toning and I expect you were all ready planning on doing that. I hope taking a step back from it will help you appreciate it more and see the beauty the rest of us are seeing! Looking forward to seeing it completed!
Work in progress – I had high hopes on this one but I’m not loving and I’m not sure why. Would love feedback/suggestions as I work to finish it.
