Hi Catherine, This is a great start! It seems you have a the beginnings of a good toning technique. There is a nice smoothness in your value transition. Good job! I’m not sure what is happening with the scratches in the paper (over zealous erasing?), but once you have embossed the paper like that it is hard to recover. Best to start a new drawing.

Try setting up your subject so that you are using a single consistent light source that illuminates your subject from the upper left. You should then see that cast shadow head toward the right and the back (instead of toward the right and front like it is in this drawing). Does that make sense?
