Hi Cleo- the colors of this painting have such impact! I especially like the lip (labellum) area on the orchid on the right. It is very strong and looks like a photograph. There are other areas that have an unfinished watercolor look that I would expect to be stronger. For example – the cluster of buds in the middle does not read well to me because there is little toning or variation in color. Overall I think your piece would benefit from more toning so it all has the same strength and crispness that you have achieved in some areas.
I agree with Doug. I’d go in and add some darks, especially to the green/bud area. You have nice darks in the stem below the flower. Add that full tonal range to the green buds.
