I am having trouble deciding which green is the main color in the leaves of this tulip. I have used chrome oxide green, earth green, permanent green olive, and a couple more. Can one of you give me some advice and maybe color suggestions that will help me continue with this drawing? Thank you.
I am learning too Carol and you may want to hear from the professionals but I am wondering if you tried to mix the selection of greens with other colors like brown, yellow, gray to achieve the greens you want. Hope this gets you going.
Hi Carol, I was just playing with my pencils to answer you better. Using the colors in Wendy’s set, I would use Permanent Olive Green as my grisaille. Then go in with Chrome Oxide green for the darks. You could use Chrome Oxide as your grisaille, but but unless you are careful, it could go too dark. Best to keep that for the darks. After you get the color down you could add some Cadmium yellow to brighten up the highlights, if you think it needs it.

Cadmium yellow lemon is what I meant to say for brightening the highlights.
