I took Vern’s advice and added pink watercolor over this tulip I’ve been drawing, and I like the result here. I’d just used colored pencils before that, and it had gotten too purple, but the pink watercolor helped it look like a pink tulip, and tied the other colors together in a nice way. Beautifully subtle shades of pink/purple. I am working on a yellow orchid and I think I will try the watercolor technique!
Looks great Carol! It definitely reads as a pink tulip now. Maybe try a dark pink for the toning so it doesn’t get too purple again.
Excellent -that pink watercolour really did the trick. Now you can go back in and increase your darks where needed/overlaps with the colour pencil.
