Hi Liz- the eclipse is a little off. The back of the top edge curves back too far. It looks like you straightened out the top front edge from what you initially drew. If you decide to change that edge instead of the back one, be sure to also change the front bottom edge accordingly. When it comes to the toning, there isn’t enough light toning flanking the highlight. There needs to be more transition before you hit the mid-range. There are eclipse templates that you can get at art supply stores. I used one all the time when I was a draftsman and after a while it becomes second nature and you don’t need the template anymore.
Me again- I saw your note about it being grainy. When I get those dark spots I lift them with a kneaded eraser and re-color the area. If you get a lot of those spots it is going to look grainy. Make sure to keep your pencil sharp and take your time doing the layers.

Nice practice page! Keep drawing those ellipses! Re: graininess: a sharp pencil and some more pressure can make all the difference on an edge like that. You can also try burnishing with a light color like Ivory or White. 🙂
