I’m not really satisfied with the central full flower, though. I think I need to tone down some of the highlights and also make the transition from the dark overlaps less intense. It looks too outlined I think.

Eileen, I think you are totally right in your self-evaluation. The highlight on the central flower may need to change shape? It is fooliing my eyes a bit and making the petals seem… smoother and rounder than they actually are.. Re: the overlaps, I think the darkness of the tone is fine, but maybe just feather it out a bit more so the transition is not as abrupt? I think you could also “separate” the petals a bit more at the outer edges by varying the thickness of the outline and really drawing each petal edge separately. I LOVE that blossom at the top! And the photos are so helpful. Beautiful work.
Thank you Vern. I have continued on the drawing and will repost before Monday. I’m finding it difficult to eliminate , or transition the overlap tones and am wondering if it has to do with having toned the flower first and then adding a watercolor layer over it? maybe I am doing the initial toning too dark? just a thought, but in the meantime will continue feathering the edges ..
This is wonderful. The colors are so soft and delicate. I love how you have the pinks and whites together on the petals. Very nicely done.
