Hi Elinor- beautiful fresh colors! While you are showing a highlight and toning on the seed head, they are missing from the flower petals and stem. The seed head has a lot of texture so I would expect to still be able to see some light texture in the seed head’s highlight, rather than a solid white highlight. I would add some toning to the petals where they overlap. Also, petals on the right side, which are furthest from the light source would be darker than petals closer to the light source. The seed head would also cast a shadow on the petals to it’s right. The stem looks like it is outlined, which you do not want. All though it is thin you can have a highlight and a range of tones to emphasize it’s cylindrical form. The flower head would also be casting a shadow on the stem where they meet. You are almost there!!!
Elinor, really beautiful colors on this pretty flower. You did a great job of drawing those foreshortened petals – not an easy task! And I love how you were able to make that center look nice and 3 dimensional. Take Doug’s advice and this will be even better! Great work!

Thanks Doug! This is very helpful feedback.
