This is beautiful Eleanor! The reflected highlight is really nice! Judging from the position of the highlight and the cast shadow your light source was shining down from above the tomato rather than the botanical standard of coming over your left shoulder at a 45 degree angle. Also the cast shadow should be much lighter.
Thanks Doug. Actually this was taken in the kitchen with the ceiling light. It was a really green tomato and should be much lighter and brighter. Do you have any suggestions for keeping the color light?
With polychromos, some drawers had success using some yellows underneath first, and then layering green/yellow/green. Some liked using the Cadmium Yellow Lemon Polychromo. And some drawers really enjoyed trying this green tomato on the brown Stonehenge Kraft paper, so they could amp up the white highlight. Trying an initial water color layer of a yellowish green to then let dry and then build pencil up on could work well too. You could try Chrome Oxide Green for your shaded sphere side, and some Dark sepia to define the darks in the sepals, and even a sharp dark sepia to outline some sepals.

Great advice, Sam! Yeah, I recommend that Cadmium Yellow Lemon color for brightness, or add a layer of yellow watercolor? 🙂
