I put off drawing this flower because it scared be. I made several mistakes: I didn’t measure it, didn’t spend enough time on toning and should have used watercolor paper and watercolor paint to fill the light colors.
Hi Fanny- You have said a lot of important and exciting things in your post. First off this scared you, but you still tried it and that is wonderful!!!! Even better yet you learned something from it and who could ask for more!!! Lastly, this drawing still has a lot of potential. I would add some dark toning to the overlaps to emphasize which petals and stamens are in front, behind, etc.. I would also add a little more dark toning to the right side the bulbous part as there is not much variation in tone right now. Where there scales on that part and if so could you emphasize them more. Really nice job!!!!!
Thank you Doug! I made changes based on your feedback. The improved version has a bit more substance to it and I see it less as a failure now. The scales on the bulbous part are supposed to be somewhat fluffy on the edges. Maybe with more experience I can render those better next time.
