You are off to a good start Joann! Amaryllis bulbs are one of my favorite subjects! There are a couple of them in my ArtFeed portfolio if you want to check them out. I see a range of tones on some areas of the bulb, but it is missing from the upper, papery part. You also need the highlight and range of tones there to emphasize the bulbs form. I think the highlight is a little too strong and could be toned down a little. You would probably see some of the veins lightly in the highlight. There is also so much detail you could especially add to the papery part to bring this to the next level. I really like the bits of soil clinging to the roots. Remember that each root, even though they are narrow should have a highlight and range of tones so that they convey their cylindrical form. Roots closest to the light source will be lighter, mid-range a little darker and roots in the back will be darker. There will also be cast shadows when a root crosses over another root. Nice job!

Lovely, shiny bulb, Joann.
