Ishbel, Beautiful! I particularly like the stem and seeds. My suggestion would be to overall establish the highlights and shadows a bit more. I know this subject is not very shiny, so the highlights will be subtle, but I want to see where the light is hitting the gourd. Also I’d extend that cast shadow out a bit more…lightly and gradually. This will help balance the piece. Also maybe add a cut section in that right corner.

Great suggestions, Katy. Ishbel, as always, I love the crispness and color saturation in your drawings. You really captured the segments well here, and that little shadow from the stem is a beautiful touch. I agree that the cast shadow might extend to the right just a bit further with a large subject like this. I think you could also add just a touch of shading to the far left side, just to show that it bends backward in space a little bit.
