Hi Jennie- you have achieved nice smooth toning. Be careful not to have a dark outline around the perimeter. You could add a lot more saturation. When you think of a tomato (and you can see it it in your photo) the colors are very strong. I would go back and add more layers of color. You are off to a good start!
I’m having a hard time getting any more color to go down – it doesn’t seem to get “richer” – not sure if that’s because i burnished too much or I need darker colors?

Jennie, you could try brushing on a layer of bright red watercolor to pump up the saturation! 🙂
Looking forward to trying a red tomato with a wine colored pencil “grisaille” to compare! Also, a rounder one 😂
