Hi Julia, You have such beautiful smooth toning. And a good understanding of the light source. Your drawing really conveys the cylindrical nature of the twig. Good job! What you need to work on now is the reflective light. It is too light and too sharp. It looks like a white line. I’d bring the cast shadow up to the edge of the twig then carefully take an eraser to lighten the dark edge of the twig.
Beautiful work, Julia! I would also recommend studying your highlight as well. It is well-placed and really shows us the 3-dimensionality of this branch, but it is very smooth and linear. To show us the texture of this branch, consider penetrating that highlight in a few places with some small dots or lines to match the branch texture and break it up so it is not a continuous line, but rather a “shimmer” across the textured surface. The highlight is a great place to show off the texture of your specimen. Give this a try on some scrap paper first, and then see what happens if you “rough up” that highlight in a few places. 😉
