Good call leaving out that shadow above the top branch! This is looking really nice! Love that detail on the silver/gray branch. Work on toning that lightest branch so that it has a shadow side and a highlight, to round it out a bit. And remember that cast shadows have a range of tones, too! They are usually darkest where they meet the subject, and then fade out into the white of the paper. Great job, Katherine!
