I don’t think so. The whites really stand out with the brown base color. Are your issues with the way the surface is holding the colored pencil? BTW, I really like the composition. It is complex and interesting. I love that you are moving beyond a portrait of a plant!

Hi Erin, I’m glad to see you moving in to flowers. This is a great study page for your first foray! Lovely details on the petals. The one comment I have is that you seem to be losing some of the dynamics. The highlights are missing and I’d like to see a few darker darks in those little triangles where the petals meet.

One thing I might have done is have the bottom bird be looking up at her buddy instead of off the page.

It’s all about the leaves! I love your dark rich greens. It really sets off the pinks. My one comment would be that the side veins could be darker and thinner so they don’t compete with the midrib. And the highlights on the leaves, both vein and midrib could be darker so the stem would stand out more.

Nice rich colors! I think maybe the highlights in the bottom flower are too uniform. I’m having trouble reading the shape of the form.

This is a beautiful sensitive drawing! I love your rich colors! And the pillowing between the veins. Also the magenta of the midrib. Great observation! And the subtle cast shadow makes this leaf jump off the page! Good work!

Hi Iulia, That apple looks great. The photo is a bit in shadow, so I’m not seeing all the rich colors you seem to have. But from what I can see it has the rich, saturated colors you other works show.

I see by your photos that the root does have that strange sideways pointing position. Sometimes you need to make “artistic modifications”. As long as that dominant root position is not a characteristic of the plant. As I tell my students, “Draw what you see, use what you have learned.”
