Hi Maureen, I’m so glad you got it done! Interesting composition! So pleasing to look at. I like the subtle touches of magenta. and the way you have indicated the grouping in nature, yet been able to draw focus on individual plants with the more completed drawing. Good job! On another note: I’m planning to organize a florilegium in my area. I’d love any advice!
I love how this turned out, Maureen! So nice to have the focus on the ‘finished’ leaves and then moved on the hazy ones… Makes the composition really interesting and also tells a more intricate story.
Thank you @katylyness and @renatafp for your kind words. I haven’t given much thought about telling a story in my work, so your comment offers much food for thought, Renata! And Katy, that’s exciting that you’re planning to organize a florilegium! I’ve only recently rejoined the group putting one together so my insight is limited at this time. Each artist has committed to drawing/painting botanically accurate works. The artist keeps the original work but prints will eventually be displayed at the nature center where we meet and our plant species are found. Most people are doing wildflowers but I’m also going to do a couple of shrubs and I think one person is doing a tree.
Beautiful composition Maureen. Those delicate highlights are gorgeous, and give your leaves a lovely sheen. I really like the mix of the pale leaves with the fully saturated leaves – it makes for a very interesting composition. Bravo!
Here’s the finished piece — hopefully it gets accepted for the show I’ve submitted it to.

Hi Maureen, Thanks for the info on the florilegium. I’ll try to keep you informed as I proceed on mine.
