Thanks Eileen. I’ve been picking up “stuff” wherever I go lately! My husband and I spent a few days this past October exploring the Raleigh/Durham/Winston-Salem area and I found these on the ground behind one of the historical buildings in Old Salem and thought “Oh, I can draw these and have a momento of our trip! Free!”
This is a wonderful drawing. I love how you’ve shown the nut and shell together and then each of them by themselves. I didn’t know buckeyes had a shell! The textures are excellent. I can feel the smoothness of the nut and the roughness of the shell just by looking at the drawing.
Thanks so much Nancy. I had to put SOOOO many layers of color on the nuts in order to get them that dark. They were fun to do. And believe it or not, I used purple on the nuts!
Oh Marci, this is out of control gorgeous. Your work is really coming along. I think you are just about ready to enter the big league of botanical artists by joining and entering into shows through the American society of Botanical Artists group. Are you familiar with it.
The detail on this is exquisite. I just wish the shadows were a bit less textured. Perhaps a bit of burnishing with ivory?
Thank you, Wendy! A compliment from you means the world to me! Yes, I was a member of the ASBA in 2015, but did not renew because I felt I wasn’t yet ready. But if you say I am, I will definitely join again. Thank you! And the ivory is a very good idea! I will try that!
Beautiful!
Thanks, Andrea!
Wow , Marci – your drawing is beautiful!

Love this Marci! The buckeyes look so three dimensional and shiny! Another beautiful picture.
Thanks, Liz!
