@vern – Thanks Vern. I don’t know what that tree is. I think I want to work on the lower righthand side of that branch more – fill it in and make it darker. But I put it in a frame already so its going to have to wait till I feel like taking it out! And yes, I see that smile.
@lizssf Thanks Liz! I’ve never seen this in person so have to admit I did this from a photo! A friend is a professional hummingbird photographer and he’s given me permission to draw his photos, so I’ll probably be working on some of those as well. I’ll be doing ones that actually show them at flowers so it’ll still be botanical. 🙂
Marci, so rich with life, colour & detail! I love the shadow areas in the leaves under the bird & along the tail under the wings. This really moves your eye up into the beautiful wings, chest, neck & head. I do see what you mean that the composition may benefit by darkening the lower right branches to keep the eye in the frame, but they really wouldn’t need much at all — barely a touch. It is truly a lovely composition. . . . a a real-world psychedelic! : D
Wow Marci. Love the detail on the branch here. Is that a ..cedar? spruce?
(and lol it looks like the bird is giving us a sly smile 🙂 )
Wow! That is a wonderful drawing Marci! Love the details on the branch and I love the bird! We don’t have anything that colorful here in the Bay Area.

What a beautiful bird! Also, love the branch. It’s very familiar. Cedar?
Thank you, Suzanne!
Thanks, Sheila. I’m really not sure what kind of tree that is.
Marci, your painted bunting is gorgeous!
Thank you, Paula!
