Vern and Doug, I redid the Paper Birch Branch and am happier with the whiter bark. The first attempt read really dark and heavy. I had a little more success with the inner part, but am missing something, The angle of the photo is a little different than the one I was drawing. Also, I think I would have drawn the branch on an angle so I could fit the whole piece on the paper vs. shrinking the size. I used the grey pencil mostly and saved the sepia for the heavy shadow side. What are my next steps to improve?
I totally agree Mary!!! All though I liked your first attempt I think that this one is even more successful!! The inner part looks great and I don’t know that I would change anything there. Seeing the actual subject next to it I see there are some details you could add if you wanted to. However, the bark details you have all ready done are great and you have really captured the essence of this branch.
