(anybody who has tried it has any suggestions about how and where to add in text ?
thanks for sharing, if so !
I am just loving the look of the pages with text that i saw in the webinar and
on this discussion board) View
thanks ! am trying out many different things until i feel more comfortable with the colour . . .
(but even before i finish any drawing, i am already wanting to remake it…!)
I am trying to make the time to draw at least one per day with colour….
and to free up the basic sketching of plants..
(so much to learn !)
and so so true what you say about natural looking lines and
shading… shading is a big bad enemy of mine still !!
(he is next on my list !)
i am thinking maybe the outlines are less visible on this one because
i also used black watercolour pencil near the bic outline
but… because it is a black and red gladiolus…
(but i already want to correct a hunded details on it…
also, on this one i actually drew on watercolour paper…
(i only have a few pieces of that, and am mostly using almost
xerox quality paper…
my sketching just isn’t good enough yet to use the expensive
paper… i mean the quick hand-eye connection…
ah! practice, practice, practice !!)
This is a lovely study of this plant. You seem to have developed your own style, reminds me a little of Art and Crafts movement style…with bold shapes of color and darker edges. Plus the simple straightforward presentation of subject. Try to keep your own voice as you move forward. Sometimes botanical drawing does not look as unique in style as some other forms of art techniques. But if you study individual artists you can begin to see a difference.
Thank you so much for these observations. I did not even know of the Arts and Crafts movement.
So, I looked them up and saw amazing work. (Thank you for this gift !)
Thank you for taking the time to give such a thoughtful comment.
Nita, the edges on this one are very nice. Much better without the outlines, imho. You showed the edges very well here, just with color. Brilliant.
