Hi Pam, First of all lovely, elegant drawing! And as for adding more detail…yes. The idea is correct but you need to think about where the leaves fall in the “depth of field”. More carefully observe what falls out of the area of focus. For example those two back leaves would probably be at a similar focus. I’d suggest looking at your subject though a camera lens and adjust the focus to what you feel is important. Then adjust your drawing to reflect that.

Great idea, Katy. I think you’re onto something there. It may be that that leaf in the top left would be more “out of focus/faded?” Loving the detail in that bud, Pam. 🙂
Gorgeous rendering, Pam – I’m really attracted to the shapes and colour relationships on that bud. The palette for the drawing is beautiful. I’m excited to see where you go with the fade technique.
I’m playing around a bit with atmospheric fade. I’m not sure if I like it, or if I want to add more detail to those back leaves. Any thoughts?
Leaves are exquisite as is to me. The left top leave shading could be a wee bit blended in. The drawing is lovely, Wendy Marris

Love the closest leaf – beautiful light and shade.
