Working on a composition of Sarracenia purpurea (Pitcher Plant). I want the largest leaf to be the floral point, and plan to have a bug floating in the water of that leaf (hinting at the fact that it’s a carnivorous plant). I’m also thinking about adding some little peat moss tufts around the base. Wanting some feedback about the composition before I transfer it to watercolor paper. Thanks!
Right now the shape formed by the negative space that dips not the centre of the paper is the focal point. That can change once colour and form come in. But you may have to deal with at negative space…it kind of bisects the paper – see what I mean? Also – the top of the tallest pitcher plant and the flower head next to it are at the same height. Hope that is helpful feedback. Sometimes I do a messy quick colour study on tracing paper too.
Thanks sam! Very helpful. I’m hoping that the negative space focal point will resolve itself with color. I’ll move that flower head down a smidge to keep it from aligning with that leaf. Good eye!!! Thanks!

(I meant focal point, not floral point, lol)
