This looks good Karye, I wish I had meyer lemons growing in my back yard! I think you can continue to build your tones on a yellow form, but trying this again but use a lighter color such as earth green #172 to start your shadow side. Since yellow is such a light color this will allow you to get a more seamless transition from shadow to mid tones to highlight making your form even more 3 dimensional and realistic! And you can continue to add color to your leaves it you like. Look forward to seeing your cross sections of the lemon slices.
