Hi Renata, There is something so lovely and fragile about this sweet flower. Really beautiful! The dark green of the leaves is perfect to set off the brilliant yellow. I love the dark recess of the cup! Only thing I might do is darken the back petal at the base where it meets the tube of the flower for a bit of separation.
Thanks very much, Katy. That is really helpful. I will darken the petal and see how it goes. Do you think it should be as darker as the corolla recess?
Thanks @sheilayoshpe! I think I started by defining the lighter areas of the ruffles and edges of the petals. And then I used the darker yellows and oranges to produce the shadows and then merged them with the lighter yellows. So much fun. Perhaps we should make notes about what we do because now I can’t really remember very well anymore!
Looking forward to seeing your yellow tulips, @sheilayoshpe! I love your work, have been admiring it for a while now. I tried some tulips a few weeks ago and was not very successful – need to try again. I have some coming up in the garden but it is still a bit too cold to be there for a long time (and I am soooo slow). Maybe I will try to find some in the florist’s.
Thanks, Renata. It’s really great to see everyone’s work, the different subjects/specimens. The yellow tulips are potted and blooming too fast. Bought them at a grocery store:)

This is beautiful! Yellows are so hard. What did you do to get them? I love the color bar below, too. Like fabric.
Beautiful ruffles!
Hi Renata – my guess is what Katy suggested won’t go as dark as the corolla recess. Just enough to push it back a bit.
Thanks, Sam. I will darken the back petal a little bit and see what happens.

Thanks, Renata. I’ve got yellow tulips opening!
