Hi everyone, hope you are having a lovely weekend! I would profit from your wisdom here. First, because I had never tried white flowers. Second, because I am drawing this from a few photos a friend sent me of her Mandacaru cactus (which is about 5m tall) – really tricky to draw from photos! And also because I am now trying to draw the the actual tree on the lower left but am not sure I am supposed to add flowers (?). And another question: should I also try to fit the fruit? Her tree has never really had those though.
Hi Renata, First of all, beautiful drawing! I would say you don’t need to add the flowers if they are not there. You are drawing the plant at a different stage in its cycle. This is good information for a botanical illustration. Adding the fruit is fine if your intention is to show this plant in all its aspects. If you are doing a portrait of a particular plant, you might only want to include aspects that this plant exhibits. Good job on the white so far. I think you can add more very light tone to get more of the shapes of the petals. play around with pastel colors. Just try not to make outlines. Gently tone a gradient in from the edges.

Looking just stunning to me, Renata. The style of lettering looks great and the colour bars below.
Thank you, Katy and Sam. I will work on it again today and try to finish it!
