I made the mistake of drawing that petal on the left and now I can’t balance the composition! Any recommendations? Advice on the flowers, leaves and buds is welcome too please. Thank you!
Hi Renata- my poppies are on steroids this year. I wish they lasted longer!!! I have the variety with the amazing purple centers and marks on the petals. The existing face front views are beautiful!!! A different view of the poppies drawn on the right would be a nice view to add and help balance the page more. I was thinking a side view, but even a view of the bud when it splits open would look good. The seed heads are so interesting after the petals come off and that would be a nice addition to the composition too. I like the idea that at least some of the new additions would also have their stems start at the bottom of the page as the existing pieces do. I would sketch it out on tracing paper first to see how you like the composition.
Hi Doug! I know! My poppies are going like crazy this year. They are such a bliss and should definitely last longer. So fragile and strong at the same time. The bees are loving it.
Thanks for the great advice, Doug! Yes, a side view on the right (perhaps sort of between the two poppies?) will work. And lots of seed heads. I love them. Will work on that tonight and let you know how it goes. PS: If only I had used the tracing paper before putting that petal in. In my defense I will say that it was one of the first things I did… Anyway, loving drawing poppies. They are so simple and complex at the same time.

Great ideas, Doug, and beautiful work so far, Renata! I think it’s a good idea to sketch some of your ideas out on tracing paper and test out the placement. Another option would be to enlarge some of the reproductive parts and show us that somewhere on the page?
Thanks for the great feedback, Vern. It is so nice to be able to hear you guys and your opinions! I will play with the reproductive parts, good idea. Doug, show us your poppy drawings!

thanks for sharing that beautiful drawing, Doug! I love how you captured the lightness of the petals, the wrinkles and oh WOW the hairs!!!
