Another really compelling composition, Rita. In this one, I would focus a bit more on contrast when it comes to the segments. I feel like that creamy orange color is nice, but it doesn’t leave enough room for some really bright white highlights in places, to make the segments look juicy and shiny. Does that make sense? Like, you’ll need some good, saturated color right next to the bright white to create contrast and ultimately that juicy pulp… ? The piece on the bottom that’s sort of broken open is closer to this, I think–though that one may benefit from some more super white highlights, too. I love the dark tones you got in the center of the fruit–that is creating some great depth in this composition!
Even thought the subject matter is very different, sometimes your works remind me of the palettes and modelling/form of expressionist painters in the mid 20th century in Mexico.
Thanks Sam- it is a real compliment, I wish it was by design, it seems like its just what I end up doing- the inside of the orange definitely looks almost pornographic
