First of all – let’s not miss that your drawings are so good! And then the arrangements are so much fun. I like the fan/spread/fall/cascade feel of this one.
Thanks, Sam! I appreciate that you identified it for me, the fan!! It has a lot of incarnations before I went for this.

I love the highlights on that carrot!!! Your collages are getting really good, Sheila. Now, I wonder… when you have overlapping elements in this style (I’m looking at the onions and the tomato that overlaps the bean), is there something you could do to emphasize the layering more? Like, if it were a drawing, we might add in some shadows in the overlaps. Does it make sense to do that here? Or maybe it would look too contrived… Hmm. Just a thought. Perhaps there is a way to have a drop shadow — even if it’s a nod to the flatness of the paper overlapping itself? What do you think, @sam-mcwilliams ? I’m just trying to think of ways that you can “lean into” this collage idea. What about elements of “pop-up?” Like if you raise a few of the elements slightly, just by folding and attaching some paper underneath? That could create some more dramatic shadows. But it may prove difficult to preserve in a sketchbook…. Just some ideas. 😉
