Hi Shannon- you are off to a good start! The toning on the dark side is nice and smooth, but it gets sketchy as you move up to the balance of the sphere. These exercises are great not only to understand how various objects should be toned to give a drawn subject form, but also to practice smooth, even toning. There are a couple of other areas to revisit. There is not enough range of tones. Remember the 9 different tones on the tone scale that you want to have represented on the sphere. You need more transition of tones from your dark to the highlight. The cast shadow is too dark. It will start dark at the subject but than fade lighter as it moves away from the subject. Again you are trying to have a smooth transition of tones. The reflected highlight is too much of a thin line. Think of the reflected highlight as the glow off the table surface so it will be wider at some points and not so controlled. It usually looks like it blends into the dark toning above it and it will not be as bright as the main highlight. You applied a lot of these principles on your branch drawing so I know you got this!!!!
